A severe hail storm moved through the Laramie, WY metro on July 11, 2025, with verified hail up to 1.75 inches and multiple NWS alerts across the afternoon and evening. The storm began producing large hail by 3:27 PM MDT and remained active into the evening.
The first alert at 3:27 PM MDT called for 1.5-inch hail with radar and spotter verification. By 3:55 PM MDT, the hail threat remained at 1.25 inches. The storm intensified again at 4:07 PM MDT and 4:36 PM MDT, when 1.75-inch hail was detected twice in close succession. Another 1.5-inch alert followed at 4:38 PM MDT.
Field reports matched the radar trend. At 4:10 PM MDT, a public report along Interstate 80 described accumulating dime-size hail with 1 to 3 inches of buildup in some areas and a few ping pong ball sized stones mixed in. Around 4:40 PM MDT, a spotter traveling US-287 reported a snow plow clearing hail from the roadway and saw several quarter-size stones on the shoulder. Radar continued to support hail production later in the day, including another 1.75-inch alert at 6:38 PM MDT and a final 1.5-inch alert at 7:21 PM MDT.
The surface impact was uneven across the metro, but the field reports point to enough hail accumulation to interfere with traffic and leave visible roadway debris in the storm path. Along Interstate 80, the 4:10 PM MDT report noted hail deep enough in places for 1 to 3 inches of accumulation. That report also placed a few larger stones in the mix, which lines up with the higher-end radar detections earlier in the event.
The US-287 report at 4:40 PM MDT adds a second impact point. A spotter described a snow plow clearing hail from the road and noted a few quarter-size stones along the roadside. Later spotter and mPING reports from 7:10 PM to 7:40 PM MDT repeatedly called in quarter-size hail, with one more mPING report at 7:21 PM MDT confirming 1.00-inch stones in the evening round of storms.
This was not a single brief hail burst. It was a multi-wave event with repeated hail cores moving through the same metro area. The reports show a mix of larger stones early and more frequent quarter-size hail later in the day. That pattern can leave short, scattered hail swaths across separate corridors rather than one continuous broad impact area.
Start with roofs, soft metals, and vehicle lots in the Interstate 80 and US-287 corridors. The report set includes both heavier early-afternoon hail and later quarter-size hail, so damage may vary block to block. Check for bruised shingles, granular loss, denting on vents, downspouts, and window trim. On commercial property, pay close attention to HVAC fins, gutters, and exposed metal edges.
Field crews should not assume the most obvious hail came from the same pass as the largest reported stones. The storm produced verified 1.75-inch hail more than once, then continued with smaller but still damaging hail into the evening. That means separate roofs or adjacent neighborhoods may show different impact levels depending on which cell crossed them.

Try the Free Demo →Document timing carefully. The earliest large-hail reports came in around 4 PM MDT, while the later round of reports clustered from 7:10 PM MDT through 7:40 PM MDT. That spread can help separate first-pass damage from later isolated hits. Focus canvassing on properties near the travel corridors and on sites where hail may have been cleared before inspection, including road-adjacent structures and parking lots.
