Data Accuracy Disclaimer
Last updated: March 1, 2026
Statement of Purpose
This Data Accuracy Disclaimer ("Disclaimer") is provided by StormSnipe in connection with all storm event lead lists, address data, confidence scores, solar detection flags, and related data products delivered through the StormSnipe platform.
1. Nature of Data
StormSnipe provides address lists derived from the following publicly available federal data sources:
- NOAA Severe Weather Data Inventory (SWDI): NEXRAD Level-III hail signatures (nx3hail dataset) and preliminary local storm reports from NWS-trained spotters (plsr dataset). - NWS Alerts API: Real-time severe thunderstorm warning polygons and parameters. - US National Address Database (NAD): Geocoded residential and commercial address records maintained by the US Department of Transportation. - Google Maps Platform Solar API: Building-level solar panel detection data (for Solar Upsell Packs only).
All federal government data used by StormSnipe is in the public domain under 17 U.S.C. § 101 et seq. and is commercially unrestricted.
2. What StormSnipe Does Not Warrant
StormSnipe explicitly does not warrant, represent, or guarantee that:
(a) Actual damage occurred at any specific address. A property's inclusion in a lead list means only that its geographic coordinates fall within the boundary of an NWS Severe Thunderstorm Warning polygon that contained a radar-detected hail signature. It does not mean that hail struck that specific structure, that the roof sustained damage, or that any insurance-compensable loss occurred.
(b) All affected addresses are included. The NAD database, while comprehensive (approximately 80 million records), does not contain every address in the United States. Recently constructed addresses, rural properties with non-standard addressing, and addresses in jurisdictions with incomplete NAD submission are underrepresented.
(c) Address information is current. The NAD is updated periodically but not in real time. Demolished structures, newly subdivided parcels, and recently renamed streets may not be accurately reflected.
(d) Hail size estimates are exact. Maximum hail size figures are derived from NEXRAD Level-III radar algorithms (MESH – Maximum Expected Size of Hail) and NWS spotter reports. Radar-derived hail size estimates carry inherent uncertainty; actual hailstone sizes can vary significantly within a warning polygon.
(e) Confidence scores predict damage probability. Confidence levels (LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH, CONFIRMED) reflect the quality and corroboration of storm detection data – the number of radar signatures, warning products, and spotter reports that support the event. They are not statistical estimates of the probability that any individual property sustained damage.
(f) Solar flags are definitive. Solar panel detection via the Google Solar API buildingInsights endpoint is labeled "likely has solar" within the StormSnipe platform. Solar detection is based on aerial/satellite imagery analysis and is subject to false positives (non-solar rooftop equipment) and false negatives (recently installed systems).
3. Contractor Responsibility
Purchasing contractors are solely responsible for:
- Conducting their own visual inspection and damage assessment before providing any estimate or proposal to a homeowner; - Compliance with all applicable state and local contractor licensing requirements; - Compliance with door-to-door solicitation laws and ordinances in the applicable jurisdiction; - Accurate representation of their credentials and the nature of storm damage to homeowners; - Any representations made to homeowners about the scope or nature of damage.
StormSnipe is not a licensed contractor, engineer, public adjuster, or insurance professional. Nothing in a StormSnipe lead list or any StormSnipe communication constitutes professional advice or a professional assessment of property damage.
4. Limitation on Reliance
Lead lists are sales and canvassing tools. They provide a starting point – a set of properties within a storm-affected zone that are worth visiting. The determination of whether damage occurred, the nature and extent of that damage, and whether a claim or repair is warranted is entirely within the professional judgment of the visiting contractor and any applicable licensed professionals.
5. Acknowledgment
By purchasing any StormSnipe product, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to this Data Accuracy Disclaimer, and that you accept full responsibility for how you use the data in your contractor operations.
