A severe hail storm moved through Padroni, CO, on August 9, 2025, with verified hail up to 3 inches and repeated radar and spotter signals through the afternoon and evening. The event extended from 2:18 PM MDT through 9:25 PM MDT, with multiple hail confirmations in the 1-inch to 3-inch range.
The first alert came at 2:18 PM MDT with 2-inch hail confidence from dual-polarization radar. Spotter-verified reports followed at 2:22 PM MDT and 2:51 PM MDT, both tied to 1-inch and 2-inch hail. Radar confidence then continued through midafternoon, including 1.5-inch detections at 2:58 PM MDT and 3:02 PM MDT, and 2-inch hail at 3:42 PM MDT.
By 4:14 PM MDT, the storm had produced a verified 3-inch hail alert. Additional radar and spotter confirmations followed at 4:54 PM MDT, 5:06 PM MDT, and 5:19 PM MDT, with hail still in the 1.25-inch to 1.5-inch range. A second 3-inch confirmation arrived at 5:48 PM MDT, then another at 6:26 PM MDT. Alerts continued into the evening with 2-inch and 1.5-inch readings, then 2.5-inch hail at 8:26 PM MDT, 3-inch hail at 8:47 PM MDT, and 2.5-inch hail again at 9:25 PM MDT.
Field reports lined up with the radar sequence. SpotterNetwork reports near 6:48 PM MDT and 6:56 PM MDT placed hail in the 3.2-inch to 3.3-inch range. Several 4-inch reports were logged at 6:58 PM MDT and were also marked spotter-verified, with times estimated by radar. Later reports at 9:05 PM MDT documented 3.3-inch hail measured with calipers and supported by photos submitted through social media.
The ground reports point to a concentrated hail core with stone sizes above 3 inches in the Padroni area. That level of hail is consistent with shattered vehicle glass, dented metal roofing, and punctured soft exterior materials where the stones struck directly. The repeated reports from SpotterNetwork and later photo-supported caliper measurements show that the hail reached a size range larger than the radar-only alerts issued earlier in the day.
The strongest field evidence clustered from about 6:48 PM MDT to 9:05 PM MDT. That window included multiple 3.2-inch and 3.3-inch spotter reports, followed by four 4-inch entries at 6:58 PM MDT. The reports were not isolated to a single timestamp. They came in a sequence, which suggests a sustained hail footprint rather than a brief burst.
The warning area also showed a long-running hail threat. Radar confidence bounced between 1-inch and 3-inch detections for more than seven hours, and verified reports kept pace through late afternoon and evening. That pattern fits a storm that cycled repeatedly over the same general corridor near Padroni, with hail intensity rising and falling as new cores developed.
For property owners, the most relevant takeaways are the report times and the measured sizes. The field data supports inspection of roofs, gutters, skylights, HVAC fins, window screens, and exposed vehicles, especially where hail would have fallen during the late afternoon and early evening windows.

Try the Free Demo →Padroni sits in open country with long drive times and limited overlap between addresses. Crews should map the route before rolling. The field reports show a hail core that persisted long enough to produce multiple verified size peaks, so inspections should not stop at the first damaged roof seen on the edge of town.
Start with the 6:48 PM MDT to 9:05 PM MDT window. That is where the strongest ground truth sits. Look for impact marks on south- and west-facing slopes, broken attic vents, and edge metal that took direct strikes. The later 3.3-inch caliper measurements and the four 4-inch spotter reports make this a priority area for claims documentation.
Contractors should also expect mixed severity across short distances. The radar alerts ranged from 1 inch to 3 inches through the afternoon and evening, while the field reports climbed above 3 inches later in the event. That pattern usually leaves some structures with cosmetic roof loss and others with functional damage nearby. Build the estimate around each roof, not the neighborhood average.
If you are triaging work in the Padroni area, check for repeat impact on the same property line, especially where the storm may have crossed more than once. Vehicles parked outside, agricultural equipment, and accessory buildings deserve early inspection. The longest-running hail periods are often where missed damage shows up first.
