A severe hail storm crossed Canadian, TX on Sept. 17, 2025, with the strongest verified stone reaching 2.75 inches. The event unfolded from mid-afternoon into late evening, with four NWS alerts and repeated dual-polarization radar detections.
The first alert came at 3:35 PM CDT with 1.5-inch hail confidence from dual-polarization radar. Activity intensified after sunset. At 7:24 PM CDT, radar and spotter verification supported a 2.75-inch hail threat. Two more alerts followed at 8:22 PM CDT and 9:04 PM CDT, with radar confidence for 2.5-inch and 1-inch hail.
Ground reports lined up with the stronger evening phase. At 7:45 PM CDT and 7:47 PM CDT, spotters reported hen egg hail, about 2.25 inches. A mPING report at 7:52 PM CDT described tennis ball hail at 2.50 inches. Those reports placed the most intense hail over Canadian during the early evening window.
The sequence shows a storm that did not stay static. It produced smaller hail earlier in the day, then built into a much stronger evening core before easing later in the night.
Field reports point to a concentrated hail impact in and around Canadian during the evening surge. The 2.25-inch and 2.50-inch spotter reports indicate stones large enough to break exterior materials, dent metal surfaces, and leave visible impact marks on exposed vehicles and soft roofing components.
The reports came in close together within a 7-minute span. That timing suggests a short, intense hail burst rather than a long-duration hail episode. Roof checks should focus on the late-evening path that matched the 7:24 PM CDT alert and the 7:45 PM to 7:52 PM spotter reports.
The earlier 1.5-inch hail alert matters for roof age and condition, but the evening reports carry the highest repair risk. Contractors should expect inconsistent damage across small neighborhoods, especially where trees, outbuildings, metal trim, and parked vehicles took the brunt of the storm.
In a hail event like this, the work is often in the details. Granule loss may appear in isolated bands. Window screens, soft metals, and ridge-cap edges can show damage before the broader roof field does. Look closely at north-facing and unprotected exposures where hail paths stayed most direct.
Canadian, TX needs a focused canvass after a storm with this sequence. Start with the time window around 7:24 PM CDT through 7:52 PM CDT. That is where the strongest reports cluster, and where roof, siding, and vehicle claims are most likely to concentrate.
Use the spotter reports to narrow inspections. Hen egg and tennis ball hail usually leave uneven damage patterns. One side of a block may show heavier impacts while nearby homes show lighter hits. Check slopes, valleys, vents, and soft metal flashing before moving to full replacement recommendations.

Try the Free Demo →The storm also produced earlier radar-confirmed hail in the afternoon. Properties that took the first round may show compound wear. That includes older shingles, already weakened skylight seals, and dented metal accessories that were hit more than once during the event.
For bid work, document the timing first, then the roof surface condition, then accessory damage. In a town the size of Canadian, isolated hail corridors can separate clean roofs from heavily affected ones within a short drive. Crews should keep their route tight and work from the confirmed evening cluster outward.
