A severe hail storm tracked through Konawa, Oklahoma on April 24, 2026, producing 4-inch stones and a long-lived sequence of radar-detected and spotter-verified large-hail reports.
The event began in the mid-afternoon and continued into the early morning hours, generating 83 NWS alerts between 2:11 PM CDT and 4:42 AM CDT. Dual-polarization NEXRAD repeatedly detected strong hail signatures through the late afternoon and evening. Radar returns included multiple 2.5–2.8-inch echoes in the late afternoon and early evening, and additional 2.4–2.7-inch returns returned after midnight.
Spotter and crowd-sourced reports align with the radar picture. At 5:51 PM CDT mPING submissions recorded tennis-ball size hail near the state line west of Bonanza. At 10:25 PM CDT spotters in Emory posted social-media photos showing roughly 3-inch hail. Photo submissions just after 10:40 PM CDT also documented tennis-ball size stones in the immediate area east of Konawa. Several local storm reports and observer posts placed repeated 2–2.5-inch observations through the Reno–Paris corridor and Grand Saline in the late evening.
Several NWS warning-area issuances accompanied the storm. Some warnings carried only the NWS warning description, while others were supported by radar detections and on-the-ground spotter verification. The result was a multi-hour hail track that produced large stones at multiple points along a roughly east–northeast progression from southern Oklahoma into northeast Texas.
Photographs and observer notes provide the primary surface evidence of impact. Spotters in Emory documented roughly 3-inch stones in photographs timestamped about 10:25 PM CDT. Multiple photo reports near Bonanza and later near Grand Saline showed tennis-ball sized hail and two-quarter-wide samples, respectively. mPING and social-media reports logged tennis-ball and hen-egg sized hail during the late afternoon and evening passes.
Local storm reports did not show widespread structural collapse. The posted images show intact large stones and photographs placed next to coins for scale. Those images indicate the potential for roof shingle bruising, dented vehicle panels, and damage to exposed soft materials in the reported locations. Radar-detected hail swaths align with the clustered photo reports around Emory, the Bonanza area on the Oklahoma–Arkansas line, the Reno–Paris corridor, and Grand Saline, supporting multiple separate impact points rather than a single isolated cell.
Field evidence is strongest where images and mPING submissions coincide with elevated radar returns. Where only a single radar detection exists without supporting imagery, treat the surface impact as possible but unverified until inspected.
Prioritize inspections in Emory, the Bonanza state-line area, the Reno–Paris corridor, and Grand Saline. Start with roofs photographed by spotters at 10:25 PM CDT in Emory and properties near the quarter-scale photos west of Bonanza. These locations have both photographic evidence and coincident radar returns.

Try the Free Demo →On arrival, document existing conditions with dated photos and measure remaining hail fragments when available. Check for shingle granule loss, punctures in rolled roofing, HVAC fin and condenser damage, skylight fractures, and chipped or cracked glass. Vehicles photographed in the affected zones should be documented for dents and paint damage using the spotter timestamps for corroboration.
Sequence repair work by severity. Schedule temporary tarps and exterior tarps for homes with exposed decking or visible penetration. Prioritize service calls within the NWS warning area that included spotter-verified reports, then address addresses with strong radar-detected returns but no photo evidence. Keep records of spotter report times and locations to support loss documentation.
Review the Strike Map (paid product) for the precise radar-derived hail track and damage zone data before staging crews.
