A severe hail storm tracked through Shady Point, Oklahoma on April 25, 2026, producing 3.2-inch stones and generating 62 NWS hail alerts from late afternoon into the following morning.
The event began as radar-detected hail signatures moved into the Shady Point area in the late afternoon, with the first NWS hail alert issued at 4:51 PM CDT. The alert stream contained repeated dual-polarization radar detections and intermittent radar-plus-spotter verification through the night. Peak radar returns included multiple 3-inch-plus detections between early evening and after midnight, and large radar echoes persisted into early morning on April 26.
Spotter information tracked the storm’s surface impacts along a southwest-to-northeast corridor. Around 9:05 PM CDT a Montgomery County sheriff deputy and local HAM radio operators reported baseball-sized hail on US 70 between Glenwood and Bonnerdale, with times and locations estimated from radar. Later public and social-media reports placed golf ball to baseball-sized hail southwest of Gurdon around 11:19 PM CDT and in Hope, Arkansas around 11:44 PM CDT. The alert stream also included an NWS warning-only hail report near 11:02 PM CDT that coincided with strong radar signatures in the same corridor.
The sequence of NWS alerts shows a pattern of intensification and repeated large-hail detections, followed by smaller but persistent hail echoes through the predawn hours. The radar record and spotter observations together map a multi-hour hail track that crossed county lines and entered southwestern Arkansas overnight.
Field reports and spotter observations indicate concentrated high-impact hail along US 70 between Glenwood and Bonnerdale and points southwest of Gurdon and in Hope, Arkansas. Multiple spotter and public reports described golf ball to baseball-sized hail in those locations at night, and the radar record shows overlapping strong hail detections at those same times.
Local law-enforcement and HAM radio reports at about 9:05 PM CDT specifically noted baseball-sized stones on US 70 in southeast Montgomery County. Social-media posts at about 11:44 PM CDT placed similar-sized hail in Hope. These repeated, co-located reports establish a corridor of surface impact rather than isolated strikes.
Observed impacts tied to these reports included multiple public accounts of vehicle denting and shattered landscaping reports in Hope and along the US 70 corridor. Damage reports came in from both trained spotters and members of the public. The pattern of spotter-verified reports and persistent radar echoes supports sustained, localized severe hail impacts across the mapped path.
Inspect roofs first along the identified corridor from southeast Montgomery County across the Shady Point area into southwestern Arkansas. Begin with properties along US 70 between Glenwood and Bonnerdale, then expand inspections toward SW of Gurdon and Hope. Prioritize areas where spotter reports and radar detections overlap. Document roof-covering failures, punctures, and granule loss with date-stamped photos and GPS coordinates.

Try the Free Demo →For vehicle and siding claims, focus on south- and east-facing surfaces where hail scours are most visible on photos taken immediately after the event. Record witness statements referencing the 9:05 PM CDT deputy report and the 11:19–11:44 PM CDT public reports in Gurdon and Hope to tie on-the-ground observations to the radar timeline. Use clustered report locations to plan canvass routes and concentrate initial estimates where spotter verification is strongest.
