A severe hail-producing storm tracked through Potts Camp, Mississippi beginning the evening of April 27, 2026 and continued into the following day, producing large hail and numerous NWS alerts across the region.
Radar first detected hail cores near Potts Camp at 9:01 PM CDT on April 27, followed by a spotter-verified radar alert at 9:18 PM. Over the next 24 hours the NWS issued 48 separate alerts tied to this storm, with radar-detected cores, spotter reports, and NWS warning-only entries recorded from late evening April 27 through April 28 into the late afternoon. Multiple radar detections and local storm reports show repeated convective cores moving across the metro and surrounding rural areas.
Spotter data and mPING entries clustered around midnight into the early morning hours. At 12:51 AM CDT and again at 1:16 AM CDT on April 28 mPING entries described half-dollar hail near Potts Camp and nearby townships. A spotter reported 1-inch hail in Hickory Flat at 9:23 PM CDT on April 27. Multiple spotter reports at 12:29 AM CDT and 12:30 AM CDT described quarter-size hail in southeast Dyersburg and the Dickson area. Additional quarter-size reports appeared mid-morning in Vernon and early morning near Paris, MS. The alert stream includes alternating radar-derived detections and NWS warning-only notices, indicating repeated storm redevelopment and a long-lived hail track through the zone.
Local storm reports and mPING entries indicate localized surface impacts concentrated in and around Potts Camp, Hickory Flat, southeast Dyersburg, Dickson, Paris, and Vernon. Multiple spotter entries recorded half-dollar sized hail around 12:50–1:20 AM CDT on April 28. Several quarter-size observations were reported shortly before and after midnight in SE Dyersburg and the Dickson area, with additional quarter-size notes near Paris and Vernon later in the morning. LSR entries show these impacts occurring across a sequence of radar cores rather than a single short-lived pulse.
The available field reports do not include confirmed structural collapse or large-scale infrastructure failures. Reported surface impacts are limited to hail measurements noted by spotters and mPING users at the times and places above. Contractors and claims adjusters working near the reported locations should expect localized vehicle dents, broken glass, and shingle bruising consistent with repeated small- to medium-sized hail strikes where spotters recorded half-dollar or quarter-size stones.
Prioritize inspections in Potts Camp, Hickory Flat, southeast Dyersburg, Dickson, Paris, and Vernon. Start with daylight-accessible residential and commercial roofs that lie along the storm axis indicated by the clustered spotter reports around midnight and early morning. Photograph and catalog hail impacts separately for each address and structure. Note the spotter times when documenting loss — for example, the half-dollar entries at 12:51 AM CDT and 1:16 AM CDT — and compare visible impact patterns against neighboring properties.

Try the Free Demo →During external inspections pay special attention to asphalt shingle surfaces, vehicle body panels, rooftop HVAC covers, skylights, and guttering in the reported towns. Half-dollar to quarter-size stones recorded by spotters can produce surface bruising, granule loss, and indentation on metal components. For multi-roof or multi-unit properties document variations in impact on each unit and identify wind-driven patterns that may concentrate damage on windward elevations.
For scheduling and routing, treat the cluster of overnight reports as the highest priority corridor. Many field reports came in overnight when visual surveys were limited; prioritize daylight inspections in those same townships to confirm and quantify impact. For precise hail track and paid damage zone overlays, reference the Strike Map for this event.
