A severe hail storm tracked through the Post, TX metro on April 28, 2026, producing 4.5-inch stones and a long sequence of radar-detected and spotter-verified alerts. The event unfolded from pre-dawn into late evening with concentrated activity in the late afternoon and early evening.
From 4:35 AM to 11:43 PM CDT, the NWS issued 88 alerts covering the Post metro alert area. Alerts included NWS warning-only messages, dual-polarization radar detections, and multiple radar-plus-spotter verifications. Early-day activity produced intermittent 1 to 2 inch radar returns. The event intensified in the late afternoon, with repeat radar-detected signatures and several spotter-verified reports between roughly 6 PM and 8 PM.
Trained spotters reported measured hail on Highway 171 between Cresson and Godley at 6:39 PM CDT. Photographs submitted by trained spotters earlier in the evening documented stones measured at 3.5 inches, and later photographic submissions showed measured samples near 3.25 inches. A NOAA employee reported 3-inch hail between Godley and Cleburne during the same window. Radar-detected alerts that evening included several 3-inch and 4-inch radar indications in the 6:40 PM to 7:15 PM CDT period, followed by additional dual-polarization radar detections and spotter reports across the Post metro through late night.
Field reports and photographic evidence concentrated along the Highway 171 corridor between Cresson and Godley and in the Godley–Cleburne area. Multiple trained spotters submitted time-stamped photos and measured samples. Reports show a cluster of large-stone observations and photographic documentation rather than large-area structural surveys.
Local storm reports include multiple spotter-verified photographs of measured hail in the 3.25 to 3.5 inch range and repeated trained-spotter submissions tied to the Highway 171 corridor at 6:37–6:39 PM CDT. Those spotter submissions are complemented by radar-detected hail signatures through the same corridor in the early evening. The record does not include county-level loss estimates in the submitted local storm reports; submitted evidence is primarily measured stones and photographs tied to specific road segments and nearby towns.
Focus initial field inspections on the Highway 171 corridor between Cresson and Godley, and the segment between Godley and Cleburne. Those locations produced the cluster of trained-spotter submissions and time-stamped photographs. Prioritize vehicle glass, parked equipment, and exposed roofing in the immediate path where spotter-verified samples were collected.
Document every inspection with scale and time. Photograph hail damage next to a ruler or coin and capture a timestamped image of the surrounding area. Use the spotter locations as starting points for a damage triage. For samples measuring 3 to 4 inches, expect localized windshield and skylight failures, and potential concentrated shingle and siding damage along the identified corridor.
