A hail-producing storm tracked through Pearland, Texas in the pre-dawn hours of May 1, 2026, producing stones up to 1.41 inches and prompting multiple NWS hail warnings. The storm moved across southeast Harris County and produced spotter reports and public hail observations before ending shortly after 1:00 AM CDT.
NWS issued three separate hail warnings for the Pearland area: 12:02 AM CDT, 12:30 AM CDT, and 1:00 AM CDT. Each advisory cited 1-inch hail as the expected threat and was issued on the basis of radar-detected hail signatures. Spotter reports arrived as the warnings were active.
At 12:05 AM CDT a spotter reported a large volume of nickel-sized stones near Turtle Creek Drive and Point Clear Drive, with the observer noting the largest stones exceeded 1 inch but were under 1.5 inches. At 12:15 AM CDT another spotter reported 1-inch hail near Cullen Boulevard and Hawk Road. At 12:26 AM CDT a field observer reported half-dollar size hail near the intersection of Scarsdale Boulevard and Beamer Road in southeast Harris County. mPING submissions at about 12:28–12:31 AM CDT recorded multiple quarter- and half-dollar-size hail reports that corroborated nearby spotter observations.
Dual-polarization radar indicated a concentrated hail swath across south Pearland during the 12:00–12:40 AM CDT window. The radar-derived signatures that prompted the warnings aligned with the cluster of ground reports received in those neighborhoods. The event concluded after the 1:00 AM CDT advisory period as the storm weakened over the Gulf Coast plain.
Field reports and public submissions show surface impacts concentrated in south Pearland and adjacent southeastern Harris County. Spotters reported half-dollar to large nickel-sized stones near Scarsdale Blvd and Beamer Rd and along Turtle Creek Dr and Point Clear Dr. Multiple mPING entries between 12:28 AM CDT and 12:31 AM CDT recorded quarter- and half-dollar observations in the same corridor.
A 12:15 AM CDT spotter report near Cullen Blvd and Hawk Rd documented 1-inch stones. The spatial clustering of those observations corresponds to radar-indicated higher reflectivity and hail signatures across the same neighborhoods. Reported hail densities were locally high in short bursts, with observers describing concentrated accumulations on lawns and vehicles rather than a uniform, citywide layer.
Observed impacts in the reported locations include dented vehicle panels, localized roof shingle abrasion, and concentrated accumulations in yards and low areas along the storm path. Field observers did not report widespread structural collapse or roof failures in the supplied reports. Damage reports were limited to the specific intersections and nearby blocks noted by spotters, with the largest surface impacts reported near Scarsdale Blvd & Beamer Rd and Turtle Creek Dr & Point Clear Dr.

Try the Free Demo →Inspect roofs in the south Pearland neighborhoods identified by spotters first. Prioritize residential properties within the block areas of Scarsdale Blvd & Beamer Rd, Turtle Creek Dr & Point Clear Dr, and Cullen Blvd & Hawk Rd. Look for asphalt shingle bruising, granule loss concentrated on south- and west-facing slopes, and torn or split edges where stones struck at an oblique angle.
Check soft metals and exterior systems that take direct hail impact. Evaluate gutters, downspouts, soffits, aluminum awnings, and exterior air-conditioning condenser fins for dents and punctures. On vehicles, document hail dents on hood, roof, and trunk panels photographed with location markers. Use local addresses and the spotter times as reference points when logging initial observations.
Expect localized insurance claims tied to discrete blocks rather than broad neighborhood totals. Triage inspections by proximity to the reported intersections and by observed granule loss or visible panel damage. For contract estimates, include targeted repairs for shingle replacement in areas showing bundled granule loss and spot repairs for metal components. Document pre-existing conditions with photos dated at the time of inspection.
