A severe hail-producing storm tracked through Miles, Texas on May 19, 2026, producing a maximum radar-detected stone of 2.58 inches. The system generated 36 NWS alerts and produced multiple radar-detected and spotter-verified impacts across the county.
The event began in the mid-morning with the first radar-detected hail alert at 12:26 PM CDT and intensified through the late afternoon and into the evening. Dual-polarization radar detected repeated hail cores during the late-afternoon to early-evening period, and NWS warning polygons covered the area repeatedly as the system moved northeast. Several alerts combined radar detection with spotter verification during the evening hours.
Local observers supplied the primary surface detail. A park manager at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area reported ping-pong-ball-sized hail at 8:05 PM CDT. An emergency manager relayed similar ping-pong-size observations near Enchanted Rock at 7:50 PM CDT. A trained spotter at Andice reported quarter-size hail at 8:19 PM CDT. A social media photo sent to local storm reporters at 10:50 PM CDT showed stones estimated at golf-ball size and was cataloged as a spotter-verified image.
Radar detections and the sequence of NWS alerts show multiple concentrated hail cores moving through the same corridor in late afternoon and evening. The storm produced both radar-only detections and events with spotter corroboration. Several NWS alerts were issued on warning-only basis during the overnight transition.
Field reports indicate concentrated surface impacts near Enchanted Rock State Natural Area and the Andice area. Park personnel and on-site emergency management both reported ping-pong-ball-sized hail in the Enchanted Rock vicinity shortly after 8 PM CDT. A trained spotter at Andice reported smaller, quarter-size hail at 8:19 PM CDT. A photographic submission at 10:50 PM CDT showed stones estimated at golf-ball size near the Miles area.
Local storm reports did not list widespread structural failures. Submitted field observations focus on localized vegetation and recreational-area exposure. The Enchanted Rock accounts come from park staff and emergency management on scene. The Andice observation came from a trained spotter. Where photographic evidence exists, it was logged with the accompanying time stamp and observer note.
Prioritize inspections along the strike corridor between Enchanted Rock SNA and Andice. Begin with exterior roof walks and vehicle surveys in the immediate Miles area and on routes connecting to the state natural area. Photograph all findings with location and time metadata. Use the park manager and emergency manager reports to locate higher-probability inspection zones.
Focus initial assessments on roof-covering integrity, metal flashings, skylights, and vulnerable vehicle panels. For natural-area facilities, inspect picnic shelters, signage, and trail infrastructure reported by park staff. For properties that show photographic or spotter evidence of larger stones, plan a follow-up with lift access or drone imaging for high-elevation exposures.
