Kuna, ID — May 25, 2026. A late-afternoon storm produced pea-sized hail up to 0.3 inch and triggered multiple NWS warnings across the Kuna metro before moving out in the early evening.
The storm developed in the late afternoon and moved across the Kuna metro into early evening. The National Weather Service issued four separate warning polygons for hail during the event: May 25 at 3:48 PM MDT (0.75 in hail guidance, NWS warning only), 4:44 PM MDT (0.75 in hail guidance, NWS warning only), 5:28 PM MDT (0.75 in hail guidance, NWS warning only), and 6:11 PM MDT (0.75 in hail guidance, NWS warning only). Those warnings indicated potential for larger hail but were issued as warning guidance rather than spotter-verified reports.
Local observations and radar returns showed small, short-duration hail cores crossing the metro. Precipitation and hail echoes were most persistent between mid-late afternoon and the early evening hours. The event concluded within a few hours after the final warning polygon passed the area.
Observed hail sizes remained in the pea-size range during the Kuna event. That magnitude of hail typically produces minimal structural damage. No widespread structural failures or large-scale roof damage were reported in the Kuna metro associated with this storm.
Isolated surface impacts are the most likely outcome. Expect light cosmetic effects such as scuffed vehicle paint, minor bruising to soft siding, and superficial wear on exposed vegetation. Skylights, solar panels, and HVAC condenser fins are the components most vulnerable to even small hail when exposure is direct and concentrated. The NWS warning guidance had higher hail values, but those higher sizes were not validated by local observation or radar-derived hail detections for this event.
Inspect roofs for granule loss, lifted shingles, and cracked sealants. Use photos with timestamps and location tags to document pre-repair conditions. Prioritize visible penetrations and water entry points. For vehicles, advise clients to photograph all panels and note any newly visible paint abrasions. For solar arrays and HVAC units, perform a close visual check for punctures, cracked glass, bent fins, and displaced mounts.
Safety and scheduling: assign small teams for rapid visual surveys rather than full repairs on first visit. Confirm access and owner permissions before climbing. Flag items that require immediate tarping or temporary covers to prevent water intrusion. Provide concise written estimates tied to photographed damage and reference the event date, May 25, 2026, in all documentation.
