Renville, MN
Alert issued Tue, May 26 · 10:46 AM UTC
Renville, MN is tracking a hail-producing storm on May 26, 2026, producing up to 1.21 inches of hail and continuing to develop in the early morning. The storm is active and producing measurable hail across the Renville area.
An NWS warning area was issued at 5:46 AM CDT (10:46 UTC) indicating radar-detected hail up to 1.25 inches via dual-polarization radar and NEXRAD hail detection. The warning area encompasses central Renville and adjacent township roads. Observations remain radar-driven; the storm is tracking east-northeast through the city limits and is continuing to produce hail and embedded convection as of this update.
Storm motion is steady on the early-morning track and cells remain capable of producing additional hail cores as they consolidate. This single-zone report covers the Renville notification zone only. Field or spotter reports have not yet replaced the radar-derived hail indications.
Hail at this size can dent unshielded metal surfaces and produce surface damage to asphalt shingles. Expect localized bruising and accelerated granule loss on older roof coverings. Automotive sheet metal and vehicle glass are at risk for dents and windshield chips when vehicles are parked outdoors in the warning area.
Vinyl siding may show scoring and abrasion. Unprotected skylights, greenhouse glazing, and exposed rooftop equipment are vulnerable to punctures or cracking. Soft landscaping and young trees can sustain defoliation and branch damage in concentrated cores.
Work crews should suspend roofing and exterior-lift operations while hail-producing cells remain over Renville. Safety is the priority. Use time-stamped photos and GPS-tagged images for any pre-storm and post-storm documentation. Where possible, move service vehicles into covered storage and secure loose materials to prevent secondary impacts.
Initial inspections should prioritize roofs, skylights, exterior cladding, and fleet vehicles. Photograph damage with a visible scale and note the time and location. Perform only temporary, safety-driven repairs while the storm is active. Schedule full assessments once the warning area has passed and radar activity has diminished.
