A severe hail storm is tracking through La Pryor, TX on May 26, 2026, producing stones up to 3.99 inches and continuing to develop across multiple warning areas. Radar-detected hail signatures and repeated spotter reports are arriving from late afternoon into the overnight hours.
The storm began producing notable hail in the late afternoon and is continuing to evolve across a broad NWS warning area. Dual-polarization radar first flagged 1.0-inch hail near 1:10 PM CDT and continued to register larger returns through the afternoon and evening, including numerous detections above 2.0 inches between 3:14 PM CDT and 8:03 PM CDT. A sustained cluster of radar-detected hail sizes in the 1.5–2.4-inch range persisted from mid-afternoon into the early night.
NWS warning-only notices also accompanied parts of the storm track, with several alerts issued without concurrent dual-polarization radar signatures. The public alert stream contains 62 NWS alerts tied to this system issued between May 26 and the early hours of May 27.
Field observers provided multiple ground reports that align with the radar track. At 6:17 PM CDT a spotter posted a photo on Facebook showing roughly 2-inch stones. Around 7:42 PM CDT a storm chaser posted photos to Twitter showing similar-sized hail near the storm core. Public reports near 5:25 PM CDT and radar-estimated reports around 8:06 PM CDT described hail in the 1.5-inch range, including observers south of Center Point who estimated half-dollar to ping-pong size hail. These spotter-verified observations continue to arrive as the system moves through the region.
Spotter-verified photos and public reports show concentrated surface impacts in and near La Pryor and along the radar-detected track south of Center Point. Multiple photo submissions at 6:17 PM CDT and 7:42 PM CDT document two-inch stones on road surfaces and vegetation, and public reports at 5:25 PM CDT and 8:01 PM CDT describe quarter- to one-and-a-half-inch accumulations in exposed areas. The pattern of reports indicates repeated hail cores moving over the same corridors rather than a single pass.
Initial damage observations are primarily to parked vehicles, outbuildings, and exposed agricultural surfaces in those corridors. Photographs posted by spotters show denting to vehicle body panels and concentrated leaf shredding on roadside trees in photo locations. Reports mentioning half-dollar to ping-pong size hail south of Center Point correspond with radar return peaks in that sector and with multiple visual reports from storm chasers.
Where public and chaser photos are timestamped, damage reports cluster between late afternoon and early evening, with additional smaller-hail reports continuing into the overnight period. NWS warning-only notices in several polygons indicate areas where warning polygons were issued despite weaker radar echoes; contractors should treat those zones as lower-priority for immediate inspection unless spotter material or the Strike Map indicates otherwise.

Try the Free Demo →Prioritize inspections along the radar-detected hail track and at locations with spotter-verified photos: the 6:17 PM CDT Facebook submission and the 7:42 PM CDT storm-chaser imagery are high-value leads. Start with vehicle fleets and metal outbuildings in those coordinates, then move to residential roofing and gutters in the same corridors. Document roof and siding conditions with time-stamped photos and note hail sizes reported by witnesses at each address.
Expect mixed damage intensity along the track. Areas with repeated radar cores and multiple spotter reports are most likely to show 2-inch stone impacts to vehicles and localized roof granule loss. Areas covered only by NWS warning-only notices but lacking spotter material or strong radar returns are lower immediate priority; perform a drive-by assessment before committing to full ladder inspections.
Bring materials and estimates sized for medium-to-large hail repairs. Tarping, temporary sheet replacement, and targeted shingle replacement will be common tasks. For agricultural and orchard damage, inspect leaf and fruit surfaces for shredding consistent with two-inch stones and document crop loss per field with GPS-tagged photos.
