A hail-producing storm moved through Willow Springs, Missouri on June 1, 2026, producing stones up to 2.28 inches and a string of radar-detected hail alerts across the NWS warning area.
The first hail alert for the Willow Springs warning area arrived at 1:32 PM CDT. NWS issued 28 successive hail alerts between 1:32 PM and 9:16 PM CDT as the system progressed through the metro. Early and mid-afternoon dual-polarization radar detected multiple strong hail signatures. A 2:09 PM CDT alert combined radar detection with a spotter report.
A Local Storm Report filed at 2:00 PM CDT recorded golf-ball sized hail at the intersection of Highway 76 and Highway EE. The spotter note said the time was estimated from radar. After the spotter report, the sequence continued with alternating radar-detected hail alerts and periods where the NWS extended warning polygons without additional ground reports. The most concentrated cluster of radar hail detections occurred in the late afternoon and early evening as the storm tracked through and beyond the immediate Willow Springs warning area.
Surface impact is focused near the Highway 76 and Highway EE intersection. A spotter-verified observation recorded golf-ball hail at that location at 2:00 PM CDT. Repeated radar hail detections along the storm path align with that ground report and indicate a relatively narrow swath of repeated impacts across parts of the warning area.
No additional Local Storm Reports of structural collapse or widespread catastrophic damage were filed in the dataset. Radar-detected signatures later in the afternoon produced additional alerts inside NWS warning polygons, but those later alerts were not accompanied by new spotter reports in the public record. Field observations therefore show a localized concentrated impact at Highway 76 and Highway EE, with radar evidence of multiple hail-producing cells tracking through surrounding parts of Willow Springs.
Inspect properties nearest Highway 76 and Highway EE first. The spotter-verified golf-ball report places the strongest surface impacts at that intersection around mid-afternoon. Check vehicles, skylights, exterior lighting, and metal flashing for denting concentrated on the windward sides of structures and vehicles.
For roofing crews, prioritize targeted triage rather than full-block replacement immediately. Document and photograph affected areas with the intersection and the time stamp visible. Look for granular loss on asphalt shingles where impacts cluster, and for circular dent patterns on metal roofing, gutters, and A/C units. Note that radar detections show repeated hail along a narrow track, so inspect properties directly along that track before expanding to adjacent blocks.
Coordinate inspection timing with property owners and adjusters. Use measured photos and location-stamped notes tied to Highway 76 and Highway EE when submitting claims or estimates. Expect additional follow-up inspections if customers report delayed leaks; hidden damage on flashing and underlayment can appear after thermal cycling and rainfall.
