A severe hail storm tracked through Stromsburg, Nebraska on June 5, 2026, producing stones up to 3.2 inches and a sequence of radar-detected hail cores from early evening into the overnight hours.
Storm signatures began generating NWS alerts in the Stromsburg metro at 7:21 PM CDT and continued through 1:23 AM CDT, totaling 35 separate NWS alerts across the event window. Dual-polarization NEXRAD detections and NWS warnings alternated through the night, with radar-derived hail estimates rising above 1.5 inches by late evening. Notable radar detections include a 1.94-inch radar plus spotter-verified hail signature at 8:15 PM CDT, a 1.92-inch radar-detected core at 9:59 PM CDT, and a 2.06-inch radar-detected core at 10:08 PM CDT. Multiple radar hail echoes persisted between roughly 9:30 PM and 10:45 PM CDT as the storm traversed the region.
Local observers provided ground-truth during the period of strongest echoes. Spotters in York reported ping-pong-ball sized hail at 10:31 PM CDT, logged as 1.5 inches in three separate local storm reports. Those spotter-verified measurements coincide with the sequence of radar cores crossing from the west into the York area.
NWS local storm reports for this event are concentrated in York, where three spotters recorded 1.5-inch hail at 10:31 PM CDT. Radar-detected hail cores earlier in the evening indicate higher hail intensity moving along a corridor that included points west and northwest of York prior to the spotter reports.
Field reports do not show a cluster of structural collapse or casualty reports within the supplied LSRs. The combination of repeated radar hail echoes above one inch and multiple spotter reports in York increases the probability of localized vehicle dents, siding and roofing surface impact, and damage to exposed soft-metal surfaces on properties measured along the radar track. Observed radar cores near 10:00 PM CDT to 10:20 PM CDT align with the timing of the spotter observations in York, indicating the surface impact there is verified by both radar and observers.
Damage reports outside York remain limited in the provided data set. Where radar reported greater echo sizes before reaching York, field survey should confirm whether higher-end hail measurements reached the surface in the adjacent townships between Stromsburg and York.
Prioritize inspections along the corridor from Stromsburg toward York, focusing first on addresses and properties within York where spotters measured 1.5-inch hail at 10:31 PM CDT. Start with vehicle panels, skylights, solar arrays, and south- and west-facing roof slopes. Ping-pong sized hail commonly leaves bruising on asphalt shingles and dents on aluminum trim; document all evidence with dated photos and scale references before any remediation.

Try the Free Demo →Schedule structural roofing reviews for the window centered on 10:00 PM to 10:45 PM CDT. Radar signatures indicate the most intense hail cores passed through during that period. For properties that sit west or northwest of York along the radar track, include an exterior siding and gutter check and use magnet-backed rulers or standardized templates when photographing dent patterns to support claims or estimates.
For claims triage, separate vehicle and minor cosmetic roofing issues from locations showing broken skylights, exposed decking, or large-area shingle loss. If spotter reports or the initial walk found multiple impact points clustered on a single property, escalate to a full roof deck inspection. Keep homeowner safety first when scheduling ladder and roof access after recent storm activity.
For contractors needing precise radar points and mapped impact lines, consult the Strike Map for the paid, high-resolution hail track and damage zone data.
