A severe hailstorm tracked through Lexington, NE on June 8, 2026, producing 4.1-inch hail and a multi-zone hail track that persisted into the early hours of June 9. The event included repeated radar-detected hail signatures, multiple NWS warnings, and several spotter-verified surface observations.
Early activity began in mid-morning with dual-polarization radar detecting sizable hail signatures near Lexington; a radar detection around 9:28 AM CDT showed stones estimated at 2.35 inches, and a separate radar detection at 10:09 AM CDT indicated larger cores near 3.13 inches. The storm redeveloped in the late afternoon. Around 3:58 PM CDT a trained spotter reported quarter- to ping-pong-ball size hail that grew to roughly tennis-ball size within minutes. Radar and local storm reports then recorded a rapid intensification in the late afternoon, with radar and spotter verification aligning on the storm peak at 4:12 PM CDT.
The event did not end with the late-afternoon core. NWS warnings and radar hail detections continued through the evening and into early June 9, producing repeated reports of inch-plus hail across multiple passes of the storm. Around 7:12 PM CDT a trained spotter logged half-dollar size hail. Early evening spotters near 8:59 PM CDT reported ping-pong- to golf-ball size hail. After midnight, observers submitted multiple mPING quarter-inch reports and a social-media image measured at about 3 inches at 12:49 AM CDT on June 9. In total, 81 NWS alerts were issued that tracked hail-detection signatures, NWS warning areas, and spotter reports across the Lexington metro area.
Field reports and surface imagery show concentrated impact along the late-afternoon to overnight track through Lexington. The 3-inch ruler image submitted around 12:49 AM CDT indicates significant localized surface impact in the area where radar-detected cores passed after midnight. The trained spotter account near 3:58 PM CDT describing rapid growth to tennis-ball size corresponds with dense radar cores over the same corridor, suggesting a focused damaging swath in portions of the metro.
Spotter reports at 7:12 PM CDT and 8:59 PM CDT document repeated periods of large hail capable of denting metal and shattering vulnerable glazing. Multiple quarter-inch mPING submissions after midnight show persistent small-to-moderate hail accumulation on exposed surfaces across outlying neighborhoods. NWS warning polygons track the general path of the storm across Lexington, while spotter-verified observations provide the granular evidence of where the largest impacts occurred.
Reported impacts from this event include localized vehicle panel denting and concentrated roof exposure on properties beneath the late-afternoon cores. Photographic evidence and multiple trained-spotter observations cluster along the storm’s east–west passes through Lexington rather than being uniformly distributed across the city. Documented reports are tied to specific times and coordinates in the storm record and should guide field inspection priorities.

Try the Free Demo →Prioritize inspections in areas with spotter-verified large hail and photographic evidence. Begin with residential properties and parked vehicles located along the late-afternoon core that produced rapid hail growth around 3:58 PM CDT and the later verified cores. For hail reports at or above ping-pong-ball size, expect through-coverage denting on aluminum panels, localized shingle granule loss, and potential impact damage to skylights, soffit vents, and HVAC condensers.
When documenting loss, use scale in photographs and include timestamps and GPS coordinates. Measure representative hail stones where available and collect witness statements referencing the spotter times above. Triage claims by combining field observations with NWS warning area overlap and radar-detected swath locations to concentrate resources on the most heavily impacted corridors.
For larger-interior damage claims within Lexington, plan for lift-and-inspect roof work and consider replacement where multiple penetrations or severe granule loss are observed. Coordinate with adjusters using the event timestamps and spotter reports to justify prioritization. For vehicles, catalog dent locations with reference photos and, where possible, measured hail sizes from the submitted images.
For precise, radar-derived hail track data and the paid damage zone overlay, consult the Strike Map to align field inspections with the storm’s mapped impact swaths.
