A severe hail storm tracked through Alma, WI on June 10, 2026, producing 1.86-inch stones and generating 54 NWS alerts from early morning into the evening. The event combined multiple radar-detected hail cores and spotter-verified observations near Highway 8 and Olinda Trail.
Activity began with scattered NWS warnings before dawn and continued intermittently through mid-afternoon. Dual-polarization NEXRAD detections appeared at several times during the day, and the NWS issued a total of 54 alerts tied to the same storm system. Radar-identified hail cores first showed measurable returns late morning and again around midday. Late-afternoon activity produced the most concentrated observations and warnings.
Spotter reports anchored the late-afternoon cluster. A spotter at 5:56 PM CDT reported half-dollar-sized hail near the intersection of Highway 8 and Olinda Trail and measured stones at 1.25 inches. A separate photo report submitted at 5:55 PM CDT documented the same area with a 1.25-inch measurement. An earlier observer at 5:42 PM CDT provided a time estimate from radar and noted 1-inch stones in their area. Multiple NWS warnings in the late-afternoon and early-evening period were labelled as warning-only, while several alerts were issued following radar detections.
Dual-polarization radar flagged additional elevated hail signatures in the afternoon. Those radar returns coincided with routine NWS warnings and with spotter activity clustered in the Highway 8 corridor. The sequence shows repeated hail cores passing the Alma metro area between late afternoon and early evening.
Field reports and submitted imagery localized surface impact to the Highway 8 and Olinda Trail corridor in the late-afternoon cluster. Two spotter-verified entries at 5:55–5:56 PM CDT recorded 1.25-inch hail and included a photograph linked to the measurement. An earlier spotter entry at 5:42 PM CDT documented 1-inch stones based on a radar time estimate.
Radar-derived alerts later in the afternoon also detected elevated hail signatures consistent with the spotter cluster, including several NWS warnings that identified larger echo cores. Those radar detections matched the timing and location of the spotter submissions rather than reporting a broad area of impacts. No additional local storm reports of structural collapse or widespread roof failure were included in the available field reports for this event.
Inspectors canvassing the area should treat the Highway 8 corridor as the primary area of documented surface impact. Photo evidence and spotter measurements provide a verifiable starting point for claims intake and targeted inspections. The pattern of repeated radar cores suggests impacts were episodic along the storm track rather than continuous across the entire metro zone.

Try the Free Demo →Begin inspections at documented locations east of Alma along Highway 8 and at Olinda Trail where two spotters recorded 1.25-inch stones at 5:55–5:56 PM CDT. Prioritize vehicles shown in the submitted photo and any adjacent structures visible in that image. Record scale-referenced, time-stamped photos and note vehicle orientation and parking exposure; those details help differentiate hail damage from post-event damage.
For roofing and siding inspections, focus on windward-facing exposures and on prevailing-tree cover gaps seen in property photos. Look for chipped or fractured shingle granules, circular impact marks on vinyl and aluminum siding, and small punctures or star-shaped cracks in single-pane glass. Log each finding to a property-specific checklist tied to the spotter-verified coordinates and the local NWS warning times.
Use the spotter-verified measurements and the late-afternoon radar detections to set inspection priorities and resource routing. Document chain-of-custody for collected imagery and measurements. Share precise inspection coordinates and time stamps with adjusters to streamline triage and prevent duplicate visits.
