Balmorhea, TX – June 10, 2026: A concluded hail event produced a peak 2.03-inch hailstone during a late-afternoon into early-evening storm that generated multiple radar-detected and NWS warning-only alerts.
Six NWS alerts were issued for the event, issued across a three-hour window in the late afternoon and early evening. Timeline of alerts and detection type:
Radar detections and NWS warning-only alerts together defined the warning area. The largest hailstone measured after the event measured 2.03 inches. The storm was not active at the time of this report.
Observed hail sizes and the mix of radar-detected and warning-only alerts indicate localized but severe impacts in parts of the Balmorhea area. Roof coverings exposed on horizontal planes showed bruising and granular loss consistent with mid-size hail. Vehicles parked outdoors reported denting and broken mirrors in field reports from the affected area.
Glass and skylight vulnerability was noted in properties with limited cover. Exposed HVAC units and irrigation equipment in the warning area sustained impact marks and cosmetic metal deformation. Vegetation damage reported near the town center included defoliation and bruising to orchards and garden crops within the broader NWS alert area.
Prioritize documented inspections in the NWS alert area and on known address clusters in Balmorhea that fall within the published warning polygons. Photograph all damage with date and time metadata. Inspect shingles for granular loss, cracked or split tabs, and roof substrate soft spots. Check gutters, downspouts, metal flashing, and exposed mechanical equipment for deformation and punctures.
For temporary work, secure tarps using non-invasive methods and note any pre-existing conditions. Prepare itemized repair estimates that separate cosmetic panel dents from structural and watertight failures. Coordinate with property owners on insurance documentation and provide clear timelines for full assessments and follow-up inspections.
