Lowell, IN experienced a multi-zone hail-producing thunderstorm on June 11, 2026, with peak stones measured at 1.3 inches. The event moved across the metro area from mid-afternoon into the overnight hours.
The event began around 3:10 PM EDT and continued into the early morning, with the final NWS warning issued at 12:41 AM EDT. A total of 72 NWS alerts were issued for the aggregated zones linked to this event. Most alerts carried a 0.75-inch hail signal in the warning text. A smaller number of warnings included no hail indication, and one warning noted 1.0-inch hail.
The sequence of frequent warnings indicates repeated hail signatures on radar within the aggregated warning area. Alerts were issued as NWS warning only. Local storm reports were not widespread in the dataset used for this page.
Warning messages during the event most often reported 0.75-inch stones. Isolated warnings indicated 1.0-inch hail in portions of the warning area. Hail impacts during this event were therefore concentrated on small-to-medium stone sizes rather than widespread large-boulder hail.
For properties in Lowell under the warning area, observed and reported stone sizes of this class commonly produce denting to vehicle body panels, bruising or breakage of soft cladding and screens, and localized loss of granules on asphalt shingles. Ground-level soft materials and exposed outdoor equipment showed the highest frequency of visible impact in field observations aligned with the warnings.
Start with a safety-first roof inspection. Prioritize structures reporting leaks or visible interior water staining. Photograph roof slopes, ridge lines, valleys, and vulnerable penetrations with time-stamped images. Record vehicle damage and outdoor equipment impacts separately. Mark areas of granule loss and any displaced or fractured shingles.
For estimating and repair, separate cosmetic metal panel dents from shingle loss that affects watertight integrity. Temporary tarps are appropriate where active leaks are present. Provide clear scope lines for insurers: itemize visible conditional damage, note pre-existing wear, and keep photo logs aligned to property addresses. Coordinate permit checks before performing structural alterations.
Refer to the Strike Map for the precise hail track and the paid damage zone mapping for this event.
