A severe hail storm is tracking through Burwell, Nebraska on June 13, 2026, producing a peak radar-detected hail core of 3.2 inches and multiple large hail pulses across the warning area. The event began before dawn and is continuing to produce discrete hail cores into mid-morning.
The storm sequence began in the pre-dawn hours and has generated 25 NWS alerts across the Burwell warning area between 4:08 AM CDT and 10:27 AM CDT. Dual-polarization radar detected early hail cores at 4:08 AM CDT and then again through the 4:20–5:00 AM CDT window, producing several radar-derived large-hail signatures. A radar-detected peak occurred at 4:26 AM CDT, followed by continued radar detections through the morning. Several NWS warning-only alerts were issued later as the system produced intermittent 1-inch cores through mid-morning.
Ground-truth reporting includes a spotter-verified field report received via social media at 4:57 AM CDT. That report documented 2.75-inch stones in the Burwell area. A subset of radar detections during the sequence were also matched to spotter and observer reports, while others remained radar-detected only. The system is tracking northeast through the multi-zone area and is continuing to produce discrete hail swaths that affected both municipal Burwell addresses and nearby rural sections.
Field reports and radar evidence show large stones struck the Burwell vicinity during the pre-dawn period. A spotter-verified social media submission at 4:57 AM CDT recorded 2.75-inch hail within Burwell limits. Radar-derived hail cores passed over the same sectors earlier in the event and again in subsequent pulses through mid-morning.
No additional spotter-verified structural damage reports are present in the current dataset. Local observers supplied size and timing but did not submit standardized damage narratives or Local Storm Reports naming damaged properties at the time of this update. Insurance and inspection teams operating in Burwell should treat the spotter-verified report and coincident radar hail swath as the priority evidence for initial field assignment.
Prioritize inspections in and immediately around Burwell, focusing first on properties located along the early morning radar-derived hail swath and the 4:57 AM CDT spotter location. The event occurred largely before sunrise, so expect limited photographic evidence from residents taken at the time of impact. Begin exterior assessments with high-resolution roof photography and sample-panel measurements rather than full-system estimates. Document orientation and exposure for each roof section you sample.
Use a layered inspection approach. Validate the spotter-verified location on arrival and then expand inspections along the radar-derived track in both the northeast and southwest directions from that point. For claims triage, use photographic timestamps and on-site witness statements tied to the 4:20–5:00 AM CDT window to sequence impact timing. Rural addresses near Burwell should be checked for concentrated swaths of crop or equipment damage where observers reported hail travel through open terrain.
