Mescalero, New Mexico experienced a concluded hail-producing thunderstorm on June 19, 2026, with peak radar detections in the 1.7–1.8 inch range across the metro area. Two radar-derived hail alerts tracked cores through the town in the mid-afternoon.
Two NWS alert areas covered portions of the Mescalero metro during the storm. The first alert began at 1:56 PM MDT with a dual-polarization radar hail signature measuring 1.7 inches. The second alert began at 2:27 PM MDT with a radar hail signature of 1.72 inches. Both alerts were derived from NEXRAD dual-polarization hail detection and marked concentrated hail cores moving across the metro. Storm activity concluded later in the afternoon with no additional NWS alerts for this event.
Radar-detected hail cores passed over built areas of Mescalero. Hail in the 1.7–1.8 inch range is capable of producing denting to unshielded vehicles and localized shingle granule loss on asphalt roofs. Roof-mounted equipment, exposed rooftop piping, and skylights should be inspected for impact and puncture damage. Solar panels in directly impacted paths may show cracked glass or microfractures that reduce output.
