A severe hail storm tracked through Gate, Oklahoma on June 23, 2026, producing stones up to 3.93 inches and persistent radar hail detections across the region. The episode began in the pre-dawn hours and redeveloped through the afternoon into the late evening.
The event produced 53 NWS alerts over a roughly 24-hour span. Early activity began in the pre-dawn and morning hours with multiple dual-polarization radar detections of inch-class hail. The system intensified in the afternoon and produced repeated radar-detected hail signatures into the evening. Several alerts were issued on NWS warning-only criteria as cells moved through populated corridors.
Spotter reports punctuated the radar picture. An mPING submission at 6:19 PM CDT recorded half-dollar stones near Ralls. A social media photo time-estimated from radar at 7:11 PM CDT showed a few stones near golf-ball size. Two spotter-verified reports at 8:13 PM CDT recorded baseball-sized hail at Levelland Country Club. Radar continued to produce large-hail returns into the late evening and early overnight hours.
Field reports and radar align on concentrated impacts southwest of Gate and along the corridor toward Ralls and Levelland. The two spotter-verified entries at 8:13 PM CDT placed multiple baseball-sized stones at Levelland Country Club. Earlier, social-media-sourced imagery near 7:11 PM CDT showed several stones close to golf-ball dimensions. The mPING report at 6:19 PM CDT cited half-dollar size, followed by a social media report of quarter-sized stones in Ralls at 6:29 PM CDT.
Public reports in this event did not include widespread, tabulated damage totals. Local observations, however, indicate that the largest surface impacts were clustered near the golf course and along the southwest track. Radar-detected hail signatures over two inches appeared repeatedly in the evening returns, matching the timing and locations of the spotter reports. Inspectors operating in and near Gate should treat the Levelland Country Club vicinity and the corridor toward Ralls as priority inspection areas based on these ground-truth submissions.
Start inspections where spotter activity concentrated. Prioritize roofs, skylights, HVAC units and exposed metal on properties along the southwest track from Gate toward Ralls and Levelland Country Club. Perform detailed roof walks and document granular loss, punctures, and impacts to flashings on south- and west-facing slopes first.
On-the-ground evidence matters. Photograph hail samples next to a ruler, time-stamp imagery, and capture vehicle dents and broken glass at arrival. Log the local report times: 6:19 PM CDT (mPING half-dollar), 7:11 PM CDT (social media imagery near golf-ball size), and 8:13 PM CDT (two spotter-verified baseball-size reports). Those timestamps align with radar return peaks and will streamline claim intake and triage.
