A severe hail storm tracked through Briggsdale, Colorado, on June 24, 2026, producing 3.81-inch stones and generating repeated radar-detected and spotter-verified alerts from mid-afternoon into late evening.
The event produced 75 NWS alerts between 3:21 PM MDT and 11:47 PM MDT. Alerts ranged from NWS warning-only messages to dual-polarization radar detections and multiple radar-plus-spotter verifications. Early activity began in the mid-afternoon, with a radar-detected 1.75-inch signature at 3:21 PM MDT and a 3.19-inch radar detection at 3:38 PM MDT. The storm cycled through several intensification phases in the late afternoon and early evening, with additional radar-detected large-hail signatures around 4:06 PM MDT and 6:30 PM MDT.
Spotters provided multiple ground reports during the event. At 4:16 PM MDT, several spotter reports described "numerous reports of golfball to baseball size with considerable damage." Field reports at 4:18 PM MDT and 6:16 PM MDT estimated hail sizes and times from radar, and a Volunteer Fire Department relayed photo-documented hail at 6:55 PM MDT. A radar-plus-spotter verification at 7:06 PM MDT noted a large signature corroborated by observers. Later evening radar alerts continued to log hail detections through 11:47 PM MDT.
Field reports and on-scene photos show surface impact concentrated near Briggsdale and along the storm track identified by radar. Multiple spotter-verified Local Storm Reports at 4:16 PM MDT described "considerable damage" associated with golfball- to baseball-size hail in specific neighborhoods around Briggsdale. Several reports at 4:18 PM MDT and 6:16 PM MDT were time-and-location estimated from radar and indicated repeated intense hail cores passing over the same corridors.
A Volunteer Fire Department relayed photos at 6:55 PM MDT documenting dented vehicle panels and damaged roof coverings on at least two properties within the reported area. mPING input at 4:41 PM MDT recorded a hen-egg-sized stone consistent with spotter observations earlier that hour. The combination of photo evidence and multiple, separately timed spotter reports indicates concentrated surface damage in the areas corresponding to the mid-afternoon to early-evening radar cores.
Reports do not indicate a single continuous swath of identical damage. Instead, damage appeared in discrete pockets that align with repeated radar-detected hail signatures. Where photos were provided, damage included vehicle panel denting and loss of granules from roof covering. Local observers used radar-estimated timing to place impacts on specific streets and properties; those sites should be prioritized for follow-up inspections.
Prioritize inspections for properties identified in spotter reports at 4:16 PM MDT and photo-documented locations relayed at 6:55 PM MDT. Begin with vehicle fleets and accessible roof coverings where local photos showed visible panel dents and exposed substrate. Document each site with time-stamped photos and a simple site sketch that links the image to the reported radar-estimated time window.

Try the Free Demo →Expect inconsistent hit patterns across short distances. Field reports show multiple intense cores passed through the Briggsdale area, producing isolated pockets of severe impact. Walk roofs and examine edge details, flashings, gutters, and mechanical equipment on the same visit. For vehicles, photograph dent patterns and note whether paint cracking or punctures are present.
For insurance-ready documentation, record spotter timestamps and any VFD photo references alongside your measurements. Maintain a clear chain of evidence tying each damaged item to the reported time window and location. Use the local radar-detected timing to corroborate witness statements when submitting estimates.
For precise hail track mapping and to identify all reported impact pockets, consult the Strike Map product for the paid damage-zone overlay and coordinates.
