A hail-producing thunderstorm is tracking through Northport, MI on June 29, 2026. Peak hail reached 2.25 inches and the storm remains active, continuing to produce large hail across the area.
The event began in mid-morning and has continued into the afternoon with intermittent radar detections and NWS warnings. Four NWS alerts were issued for the multi-zone storm path: an 8:56 AM EDT alert with a roughly 1.36-inch radar-detected hail signature; a 12:32 PM EDT alert issued on warning information only reporting about 1 inch; a 1:40 PM EDT radar detection near 1.06 inches; and a 2:32 PM EDT alert from NWS warning information only at about 1 inch. The dual-polarization radar detections in the mid-morning and early-afternoon alerts indicate concentrated hail returns on NEXRAD. The NWS warning-only alerts reflect areas where severe conditions were reported or forecast but did not show a corresponding radar hail signature at issuance time.
The storm is tracking slowly through the Northport metro footprint and is producing intermittent cells capable of producing large hail and strong outflow. Conditions may still be developing and new hail-producing cells can form along the boundary that the storm is following.
