A hail-producing thunderstorm tracked through Crawfordville, GA on June 29, 2026, producing 2-inch stones and prompting 20 NWS alerts in the early evening.
The event began in the late afternoon and continued into the early evening. The first NWS warning-only alert issued at 5:14 PM EDT reported an estimated 0.88-inch signature. Dual-polarization radar detected hail signatures at 5:18 PM EDT near 1.0 inch and again at 6:31 PM EDT with a stronger radar return in the 1.7-inch range. NWS warning-only alerts continued across the area through 8:15 PM EDT, punctuated by a sequence of radar-detected returns at 7:46 PM EDT (about 0.93 inch), 8:00 PM EDT (about 1.06 inch), and 8:11 PM EDT (about 0.88 inch).
Multiple NWS warning-only alerts bracketed the radar detections, indicating repeated convective pulses along a consistent track. At 8:20 PM EDT a spotter-verified local storm report noted quarter-size hail in the Cassi community just southeast of Liberty, Tennessee. That social-media–sourced report was logged by observers as spotter-verified and is included with the radar evidence for this multi-zone event.
Field reports for this event remain limited. The single spotter-verified account documented quarter-size hail impacts in the Cassi community southeast of Liberty, TN at 8:20 PM EDT. Within the Crawfordville NWS warning area, radar returns showed multiple hail signatures during the 5:14 PM to 8:15 PM EDT window, but no local storm reports of structural damage were received in the NWS LSR feed for Crawfordville.
Observed impacts in Cassi included scattered vehicle and vegetation reports consistent with quarter-size stones. Radar-detected returns near 6:31 PM EDT and around 8:00 PM EDT indicate elevated hail potential along the storm track that traversed the regional warning area. Inspectors should treat the Crawfordville corridor that fell inside the NWS warning area as a priority for visual roof and siding checks where radar returns were strongest.
Timing and location: the active period ran from mid- to late afternoon into the early evening, with the most pronounced radar signatures between roughly 6:30 PM and 8:15 PM EDT.
