A severe hail storm tracked through Brewster, MN on July 2, 2026, producing 3.5-inch stones and multiple radar-detected hail cores from pre-dawn into late evening. The event generated an extended sequence of NWS alerts and spotter reports across the Brewster metro.
NWS issued 54 alerts tied to this storm between 3:05 AM CDT and 11:15 PM CDT on July 2. Eighteen of those alerts were dual-polarization radar detections, including one alert that combined radar signatures with a spotter verification. Strong radar cores produced repeated detections above 1.5 inches in mid- to late afternoon. Notable radar-derived hail cores occurred around 2:47 PM CDT and persisted through the 4:30–4:45 PM CDT window.
Ground observations were limited but specific. At 7:09 PM CDT a trained spotter reported 1-inch diameter hail in Jackson. That spotter entry appears twice in the local storm reports for the Jackson area and is recorded as spotter-verified.
The alert record shows an active storm cycle that began in the pre-dawn hours and redeveloped into multiple hail cores during the afternoon and early evening. Several NWS warning-only alerts bracketed the radar-detected events, indicating periods when the warning polygon covered the storm track without concurrent dual-polarization confirmation.
Local storm reports show spotter-verified 1-inch hail at 7:09 PM CDT in Jackson. No additional trained-spotter reports of structural failures or larger measured stones were filed in the LSR entries tied to Jackson.
Radar-detected hail cores tracked across the Brewster metro and adjacent areas. Dual-polarization returns above 1.5 inches were recorded in the mid-afternoon hours along a corridor east-southeast of Brewster. Those radar cores moved through populated and agricultural parcels that lie between Brewster and nearby towns, including the Jackson reporting point.
Insurance and municipal calls that arrive after the event are likely to focus where the radar cores intersected developed parcels and vehicle congregations. Field observations in Jackson document surface impacts consistent with one-inch stones; radar indicates pockets of larger hail along the swath that warrant targeted inspection in those corridors.
Inspect order and priority. Start in Jackson, where spotter-verified hail was documented at 7:09 PM CDT. Next, inspect properties along the radar-detected swath east-southeast of Brewster, particularly locations that align with the mid-afternoon hail cores near 2:47 PM to 4:45 PM CDT. Prioritize roofing edges, south- and west-facing panels, exposed HVAC units, skylights, and vehicle fleets.
Document damage with geotagged photos and timestamps. Capture close-ups of dents and punctures next to a ruler or a coin for scale. Note the time and location of each photo in the filename or metadata. For roofing, photograph shingles, gutters, vents, and flashing. Record any interior leaks and whether temporary coverings were applied.

Try the Free Demo →Measure and categorize hits in the field. Expect a mix of minor denting where spotter reports show one-inch stones and localized larger impact patterns where radar detected cores above 1.5 inches. Field crews should size representative hail samples when available, note compass orientation of impact scarring, and log adjacent land use so claims can be tied to the radar core path.
For precise hail-track planning and to target inspections to the radar-derived swath, consult the Strike Map for the paid product. The Strike Map shows the exact radar-derived hail points and the paid damage zone for this storm.
