Rolla, KS experienced a concluded hail-producing thunderstorm on July 3, 2026, producing up to 1.88 inches of hail and tracking across the metro from late afternoon into early evening.
The event generated eight NWS alerts between 3:40 PM CDT and 6:26 PM CDT. Alerts and detections were as follows:
Radar coverage shows the hail path moved across the Rolla metro in a generally eastward progression during late afternoon and into early evening. Several alerts were radar-detected; one alert at 4:47 PM CDT relied on the NWS warning polygon without a dual-polarization radar detection in the alert payload.
Alert sizes recorded in the Rolla metro ranged from about 1.0 to 1.75 inches on radar, with the single NWS-warning-only alert at 1.25 inches. Hail in that range commonly produces visible denting to vehicle panels, localized damage to asphalt-shingle roofing such as granule loss and bruising, and impacts to external HVAC components and soft vinyl siding where exposure occurred. The timing over late afternoon increased the likelihood of vehicles parked outdoors being struck during commute and evening activities in residential and commercial areas of the metro.
