A hail-producing storm tracked through Wagram, North Carolina on July 5, 2026, producing 1.62-inch stones and triggering an extended sequence of NWS alerts and radar hail detections.
The event began in the late afternoon and persisted into the overnight hours, with NWS issuing 63 separate alerts for the warning area between about 2:40 PM and 12:01 AM EDT. The early warning phase contained several NWS warning-only messages. Dual-polarization NEXRAD hail detections appeared in the mid-afternoon and again in the early evening, with radar-derived larger returns recorded near 4:06 PM and a second concentration between about 6:00 PM and 7:10 PM. Spotter submissions on the ground corroborated multiple hail pulses during the evening surge.
Observers logged dime-sized hail around 8:30 PM EDT (00:30 UTC) and quarter-sized hail at 8:33 PM EDT (00:33 UTC), both noted as mPING spotter reports. Additional spotter-verified dime reports arrived later the same night at 10:07 PM EDT (02:07 UTC). The sequence of NWS warning-only alerts and intermittent radar-detected signatures produced a discontinuous hail track across the warning area rather than a single continuous swath.
Field reports collected for this storm were principally size observations rather than damage reports. Multiple mPING submissions recorded 0.75-inch (dime) hail at 8:30 PM EDT and repeated 1.00-inch (quarter) observations at 8:33 PM EDT. Those spotter-verified reports did not include accompanying notes of structural roof failure, vehicle crush damage, or large-scale crop loss in the immediate Wagram area.
Radar-detected pockets of larger hail were present inside the broader NWS warning area, but local ground submissions remained concentrated on dime- and quarter-sized stones. No Local Storm Reports indicating roof or utility damage were filed with the NWS for Wagram. Inspected properties along the reported observation points are more likely to show cosmetic shingle granule loss or minor vehicle dinging where quarter-sized hail fell, with the greatest surface impact localized to the times and streets nearest the 8:30–8:33 PM spotter reports.
Prioritize inspections for properties east and southeast of central Wagram where spotter reports clustered at 8:30–8:33 PM EDT. Start with photographic documentation tied to time stamps and GPS coordinates. For roofing, look for granule loss, bruised shingles, and hairline fractures concentrated on upper-story exposures and windward slopes. Record measurements of hail remnants if still available and note whether damage patterns align with local driveways, parking areas, or exposed equipment.
For vehicles and outdoor equipment, inventory dents and broken trim on cars parked along the east–southeast corridor of town during the 8:30 PM reports. Note that radar-detected larger pockets occurred earlier in the afternoon and again during the early evening; inspect properties along the full warning area for patchy impacts rather than assuming uniform damage across the town. Use multiple close-range photos and a consistent measurement standard for millimeter- or coin-based hail comparison in claim files.
