Steeleville, IL experienced a concentrated hail event on July 10, 2026. Peak stones were radar-detected at 1.78 inches during an early evening severe thunderstorm that produced multiple NWS warning areas.
The main hail-producing period occurred in the early evening and concluded the same night. Five NWS alerts were issued across the Steeleville metro. A dual-polarization radar detection at 6:37 PM CDT (23:37 UTC) identified the largest stones. Subsequent NWS warning-only alerts followed at 6:43 PM CDT (23:43 UTC), 7:20 PM CDT (00:20 UTC), 7:53 PM CDT (00:53 UTC), and 8:41 PM CDT (01:41 UTC). The alerts tracked the storm as it moved through successive warning areas. Radar-derived hail detections indicate a concentrated core early in the sequence, with smaller hail signatures persisting later in the event. The storm is concluded.
The largest stones observed by radar are within a size range that commonly produces shingle bruising and metal denting on exposure.
