Fort Hancock, TX recorded hail up to 1.8 inches on July 17, 2026, in a multi-zone thunderstorm that produced repeated radar detections and an NWS warning. The event ran from mid-afternoon into early evening and produced multiple hail-bearing cells across the Fort Hancock area.
The storm produced five separate NWS alerts in the Fort Hancock aggregate. At 1:20 PM CDT (18:20 UTC) radar-derived hail detection reported 1.27 inches using dual-polarization NEXRAD hail mapping. Around 3:33 PM CDT (20:33 UTC) a second radar-derived alert showed 1.11 inches. A third radar-derived detection appeared at 5:41 PM CDT (22:41 UTC) at 1.06 inches. At 6:21 PM CDT (23:21 UTC) the National Weather Service issued a warning without a concurrent radar-derived hail detection noted in our alert set. A final radar-derived alert at 7:00 PM CDT (00:00 UTC) recorded 1.03 inches. The sequence shows multiple radar-detected hail cores moving through Fort Hancock from mid-afternoon into early evening. The event has concluded.
