StormSnipe recorded hail in San Lorenzo, NM on July 20, 2026, peaking at 2.08 inches as multiple radar-detected and NWS-warned cells crossed the metro.
The event ran from early afternoon into early evening. The first NWS alert issued at 12:58 PM MDT and the final alert cleared at 6:37 PM MDT. In total, 25 NWS alerts were issued for the San Lorenzo metro during the event. Nineteen alerts were detected by dual-polarization radar; six alerts were issued as NWS warning only.
The cluster produced repeated hail pulses through the afternoon. Early afternoon activity produced sub-1.5 inch radar returns. Around mid-afternoon, the storm produced alternating radar-detected pulses and NWS-warning-only cells. Late afternoon saw intensified returns with several radar-detected pulses exceeding 1.5 inches and the largest radar echo recorded in the early evening. The sequence of alerts shows multiple passes of the core over the metro rather than a single, steady strike path. The event is concluded.
Radar-detected hail ranged from nominal golf-ball size up to the peak noted in the lede. Where radar-detected pulses exceeded approximately 1.5 inches, expect a higher likelihood of vehicle panel denting and accelerated wear on asphalt shingles. Hail near 1.0 to 1.25 inches can cause cosmetic damage to paint and trim and may strip shingle granules, reducing roof service life when accumulated across multiple hits.
