Glenwood, NM — August 2, 2026. A severe thunderstorm moved through Glenwood in the early evening with radar-detected hail peaking at 1.46 inches. The event is concluded.
The storm affected multiple adjacent warning areas in a multi-zone aggregate event. Two NWS warning areas were issued for hail during the storm. The first alert issued at 5:07 PM MDT reported radar-detected hail near 1.5 inches using dual-polarization NEXRAD hail detection. The second alert issued at 6:40 PM MDT reported radar-detected hail near 1.3 inches in a downstream warning area. Both alerts were based on NEXRAD dual-polarization signatures indicating strong hail cores along the storm's path.
Radar indicated the most intense returns over the central Glenwood corridor during the early evening transit. The warnings tracked a northeast-southwest axis through the local metro area. Local field activity has concluded and no further warnings are active for this event.
Hail along the mapped track passed through residential and light-commercial areas of Glenwood.
