A severe hail storm tracked through Bagley, Minnesota, early on August 7, 2026, producing 2-inch stones and extensive golf-ball-size reports across nearby corridors.
NWS issued six hail alerts between 4:54 AM CDT and 6:44 AM CDT on August 7. Early dual-polarization radar detections around 4:54 AM CDT and 5:19 AM CDT indicated roughly 1.5-inch hail signatures. A third radar detection at 5:32 AM CDT showed about 1.25-inch returns. Radar signatures strengthened again at 5:53 AM CDT and weakened to an NWS warning-only alert at 6:14 AM CDT showing roughly 1 inch. The final radar-derived hail indication came at 6:44 AM CDT near the storm’s exit from the area.
Spotter activity increased in the mid-to-late portion of the sequence. At 6:05 AM CDT, local storm reports noted numerous photographs of large hail around Fisjhook Lake. Between 6:10 AM CDT and 6:20 AM CDT, observers in Park Rapids and along Highway 34 between Nevis and Park Rapids reported many instances of golf-ball-size hail. Those local reports aligned with the radar-detected hail swath moving northeast through the Bagley metro and adjacent road corridors.
Field reports and photographs show concentrated surface impacts near Fisjhook Lake and along the Hwy 34 corridor between Nevis and Park Rapids. Multiple spotters captured roof and vehicle denting in Park Rapids and at lakefront properties where hail accumulation and repeated impacts were documented in images submitted at 6:05 AM CDT and 6:10 AM CDT. Highway crews and motorists reported surface scouring from accumulated hail and broken branches along Highway 34 during the 6:10 AM–6:20 AM window.
Damage pattern is not uniform. Photographs near Fisjhook Lake show clusters of larger stones collected in driveways and on dock surfaces. Park Rapids submissions show dented aluminum panels and shattered glass on parked vehicles. Reports along Highway 34 describe localized tree limb damage and roadway debris, with the highest photographic density where the radar hail swath intersected the highway corridor.
Insurance adjusters and municipal crews should expect geographically concentrated claim clusters rather than evenly distributed minor hail loss across the entire Bagley NWS alert area. Field evidence points to more significant vehicle and exposed-metal damage at lakeside properties and cars parked in open lots in Park Rapids during the early-morning event.
Focus initial inspections on Fisjhook Lake properties, Park Rapids residential and commercial roofs, and structures adjacent to Highway 34 between Nevis and Park Rapids. Start with visual roof checks for torn or missing shingles, localized punctures in metal roofing, and granule loss along downwind edges.
