Kingman, AZ — August 12, 2026. A multi-cell hailstorm moved across the Kingman metro on Aug 12, producing a peak 1.7-inch hailstone and triggering a series of NWS warnings and radar detections.
Storm initiation occurred in the mid-morning and continued into the early evening. Eighteen NWS alerts spanned 8:24 AM MST through 7:45 PM MST. Five alerts included dual-polarization radar hail detections at 12:46 PM MST, 1:11 PM MST, 2:26 PM MST, 3:58 PM MST, and 5:05 PM MST. The remaining alerts were NWS warning-only notifications issued as the line propagated across the metro.
Radar returns showed multiple discrete hail cores rather than a single continuous front. Alerts with radar-detected hail corresponded to peak intensities in late morning through late afternoon. NWS warning polygons repeatedly covered the central Kingman metro during the active period, producing overlapping alert coverage for portions of the city.
Hail of this size commonly produces vehicle body dents, windshield pitting, and localized shingle impact damage. Roof coverings with existing wear are at higher risk of shingle fracture and granule loss. Skylights, exposed HVAC coils, and outdoor equipment are susceptible to cracking and surface gouging.
Damage is most likely where the radar-detected swath crossed populated areas of the Kingman metro during midday and late afternoon. Property owners should expect isolated to scattered impact patterns rather than uniform coverage across the entire warning area. Document visible impact marks and interior leak evidence promptly to support repair estimates and insurance filings.
Begin with a safety-first site triage. Confirm structural access and secure ladders and fall protection before roof work. For initial inspections, photograph impacted areas with scale references and GPS-enabled timestamps. Record the date, street address, and visible measurement of hail-diameter evidence when present. Prioritize temporary coverings over areas showing active leaks and stains in attics.
For estimating, quantify damaged material per roof plane and note existing wear indicators that affect replacement decisions. Check vents, skylights, flashing, and mechanical units for concentrated impact. Provide clients with a documented scope that includes photos, measured hail impacts where possible, and reference to the Aug 12 radar-detected hail times and NWS warning coverage to contextualize the event.
