Ansley, NE — August 13, 2026. A late-night into mid-morning storm produced hail that peaked at 1.69 inches in the Ansley area. The event concluded after repeated NWS warnings and multiple radar hail detections.
The storm sequence began with an NWS warning at 12:40 AM CDT and continued through a final NWS warning at 9:36 AM CDT. NWS issued 29 alerts covering the multi-zone event. Most alerts issued during the sequence reported 0.75-inch hail in the warning text.
Dual-polarization radar detected discrete hail cores during three alert cycles. Radar detections occurred at 12:59 AM CDT (radar-detected 0.96 inch), 1:35 AM CDT (radar-detected 1.62 inch), and 2:34 AM CDT (radar-detected 0.88 inch). The remaining alerts were NWS warning only entries that flagged ongoing hail risk in the broader warning area.
Storm behavior was episodic. Periods of stronger hail detection were separated by warnings that remained at the 0.75-inch level. The timing and repeating alerts indicate several hail-producing cores moved through the same general corridor across and near Ansley between late night and mid-morning.
Observed hail sizes ranged from non-detectable in some NWS entries up to the radar-detected 1.69-inch peak. Alerts clustered at 0.75 inch, with intermittent radar-detected cores above that threshold. Hail in the 0.75–1.69 inch range typically causes denting to vehicle panels and metal fixtures, localized damage to vinyl and aluminum siding, and bruising or granule loss on asphalt shingles.
In Ansley and immediate nearby roadways, outdoor vehicles, exposed farm equipment, and unshaded recreational vehicles had the highest exposure during the hail cores. No spotter-verified structural collapse reports are included in the alert sequence data. Field inspections should prioritize visible denting, broken glass, and concentrated shingle loss where radar cores passed.
