A hail-producing thunderstorm tracked through Searcy, Arkansas on August 26, 2026, producing 2.29-inch hail during the afternoon and evening. The event generated multiple radar detections and spotter reports across the warning area.
The storm sequence began in the early afternoon and extended into the evening. The National Weather Service issued 25 related alerts across the warning area. Dual-polarization radar detected repeated hail signatures during the period. Radar-derived hail detections included a 1.13-inch return at 1:38 PM CDT and a 1.8-inch return at 2:03 PM CDT. A stronger radar hail core appeared in late afternoon with a 1.85-inch radar detection at 4:28 PM CDT. Several alerts were labeled NWS warning only where radar returns were weaker or less continuous.
Observers supplied surface reports consistent with the radar picture. At 3:07 PM CDT spotters corrected a previous observation to report half-dollar-sized hail, about 1.25 inches, at 1 SSE Armstrong Springs. At 5:41 PM CDT two spotters reported golf ball-sized hail, 1.75 inches, 3 W of LeFlore, Oklahoma. Those spotter-verified observations lined up with radar-detected cores sweeping northeast across the aggregated warning area in late afternoon and early evening.
Local storm reports recorded hard-packed hail at two specific locations. The corrected report at 1 SSE Armstrong Springs noted 1.25-inch stones at 3:07 PM CDT. The reports at 5:41 PM CDT near LeFlore, OK documented 1.75-inch stones. Radar-detected hail cores passed near the Searcy metro between the mid-afternoon and early evening hours, overlapping the spotter reports in time and general track.
Field reports did not include broad, centralized collapse or large-loss claims in the LSR entries associated with these observations. The spotter-verified golf ball and half-dollar reports indicate potential for vehicle panel dents, skylight and sunroof damage, and localized roofing shingle impact in the immediate vicinity of the reported locations. Insurers and adjusters working within the warning area should expect isolated, quantifiable impact patterns rather than uniform, citywide damage.
Prioritize inspections for properties along the northeastward storm track active in late afternoon and early evening. Start with addresses closest to 1 SSE Armstrong Springs and the corridor running toward LeFlore, OK where spotters recorded half-dollar and golf ball-sized hail. Document each property with date- and time-stamped photos taken from multiple angles. Include close-ups with a common object for scale and a wider shot showing roof slope and surrounding landmarks.
Focus rooftop checks on granule loss, split or bruised shingles, and concentrated impact clusters on windward-facing planes. On vehicles, document panel dents, chipped paint, cracked glass, and broken sunroofs. Measure and record dent diameters where possible. Use magnet or board tests for loose granules in gutters. Label all findings by street address and include the local observation time when the storm passed.
