Wendover, UT saw a concluded hail event on August 27, 2026, with a peak measured hail diameter of 0.68 inch during late afternoon and early evening. The event occurred in multiple pulses under NWS warning-area alerts and produced a radar-detected hail swath across the metro.
NWS issued three warning-area alerts for hail during the event. The first warning was issued at 3:43 PM MDT for 0.75-inch hail. A second warning followed at 4:16 PM MDT for 0.75-inch hail. A third warning was issued at 7:58 PM MDT for 0.75-inch hail. All three alerts were logged as NWS warning only.
Radar showed convective echoes consistent with hail-sized scatter across the warning areas in late afternoon and early evening. The storm presented as a series of pulses rather than a single long-lived cell. The largest measured hailstone sampled in the metro measured 0.68 inch in diameter. Field reports did not accompany the warning-area alerts.
Hail at 0.68 inch typically produces cosmetic damage. Vehicle paint chips and small dents are possible on horizontal metal panels. Asphalt shingle roofs may show localized granule loss and minor bruising on older shingles. Vinyl siding can receive pitting on exposed faces. Outdoor plants and tender landscaping may show defoliation or leaf scarring.
In Wendover specifically, expect concentrated minor impacts within the radar-detected swath and inside the NWS warning areas issued on August 27. Structures with recent wear or exposed mechanical equipment are more likely to show visible effects. No widespread structural failures are associated with this size.
Begin with a safety-first roof assessment. Confirm that surfaces are dry and stable before walking. Photograph roof surfaces, gutters, vehicles, and mechanical units with a visible scale and a timestamp. Record the street address and GPS coordinates for each inspection. Prioritize visible granule loss, shingle bruising, dents on HVAC housings, and damage to solar panels or skylights.
Provide itemized estimates distinguishing cosmetic repairs from functional damage. Consider temporary protections for exposed mechanical equipment and soft metals pending permanent repair. Coordinate documentation for insurance adjusters and keep material samples for dispute resolution. Schedule follow-up inspections within one week to capture evolving issues such as accelerated granular loss or leak development.
