Belvidere, TN experienced a late-afternoon to early-evening hail event on September 5, 2026, producing a peak hail size of 2.07 inches. The multicell storm produced multiple NWS alerts and radar-detected hail along a north–northeast track through the metro.
The storm developed in the late afternoon and persisted into the early evening on September 5, 2026. Five NWS alerts covered the system as it moved through the Belvidere metro. At 5:43 PM CDT a dual-polarization radar detection reported 1.49-inch hail. At 5:59 PM CDT the NWS issued a warning noting 0.75-inch hail potential. Additional NWS warning-only alerts followed at 6:39 PM CDT and 6:49 PM CDT, each indicating 0.75-inch hail in warning text. A final radar-detected signal at 8:53 PM CDT recorded 1.43-inch hail. The event is concluded.
Radar-derived detections bracketed the strongest cores in late afternoon and again around 8:50 PM CDT. Ground reports and spotter submissions aligned with the radar detections for the larger early and late cores. The storm behaved as a multi-zone aggregate event, producing concentrated hail cores rather than a uniformly broad field of hail.
Peak stones reached 2.07 inches, larger than a golf ball (1.75 inches) and smaller than a baseball (2.75 inches). Hail in the 1.25–2.07-inch range typically causes denting to vehicle panels and damage to unprotected glazing. For Belvidere properties exposed in the storm path, expect: dented sheet metal on cars, fractured or cracked skylights and windows, localized asphalt shingle loss, and damaged soft-metal trim.
Smaller hail clusters near 0.75–1.49 inches are consistent with cosmetic to functional damage on siding, gutters, and rooftop accessories. Solar panels and exposed condenser units can suffer impact cracks or casing damage at the sizes recorded. Any signs of punctures, missing shingle granules, or cracked glass in Belvidere structures should be documented promptly.
Perform an initial exterior survey first, then follow with a roof-level inspection if conditions and fall protection measures allow. Photograph all damage with date–time stamps and location notes. Measure representative hail impact marks and map them to addresses inside the NWS warning areas for the event. Prioritize repair estimates for compromised roofing, broken glazing, and HVAC units that present immediate water intrusion or safety hazards.
For temporary mitigation, apply watertight tarps to exposed roof sections and board or secure broken windows to prevent further interior damage. Use proper PPE and fall protection on elevated work. Provide clients with itemized scopes: replace versus repair thresholds for shingles, glass, and metal flashings. Coordinate timing with insurers and document all temporary repairs with photos and receipts.
