A severe hail storm tracked through McLean, TX on September 15, 2026, producing 2.15-inch stones and multiple radar-detected hail signatures in late afternoon into early evening.
NWS issued 22 alerts for the McLean area between 2:50 PM CDT and 9:30 PM CDT. Eight of those alerts contained dual-polarization radar detections. Fourteen alerts were NWS warning only. The first alert began late afternoon and the sequence continued into early evening.
Dual-polarization radar flagged hail signatures at several points along the storm track. Notable radar-detected alerts occurred around 3:47 PM CDT, 5:05 PM CDT, 5:46 PM CDT, and 7:47 PM CDT. NWS warning-only messages were concentrated between 4:15 PM CDT and 8:11 PM CDT. A ground observer submitted an mPING report at 6:32 PM CDT (23:32 UTC) describing quarter-sized hail; that mPING observation is spotter-verified.
The sequence shows alternating periods of radar-detected hail and NWS warning-only alerts as the convective cluster moved across the metro. Time stamps on radar signatures and warnings place the most concentrated hail activity through McLean in the late afternoon into early evening window.
Field reports for McLean remain limited. The only ground-truth submission logged for this storm was the mPING entry at 6:32 PM CDT (23:32 UTC) reporting quarter-sized (1.00 in.) hail. No additional local storm reports of structural damage or crop loss were filed with the NWS for the McLean municipal area in the event record.
Radar detections show a multi-hour hail corridor that passed over populated sections of McLean. Where radar and the mPING submission overlap, exposure to hail occurred primarily on the town’s western and central streets during the early evening period. No spotter-verified reports of roof damage, vehicle dents, or broken glass were recorded in the public storm log for McLean when this page was prepared.
Contractors and insurers should treat the event as one with mixed evidence: clear radar hail signatures along a sustained track, and limited but direct ground verification from a spotter. Use site-specific inspections to confirm surface impact before authorizing repairs or claims payments.
Inspect vehicles and rooftop surfaces exposed during the late afternoon–early evening passage. Begin with properties in the western and central McLean corridors where radar-detected returns overlapped populated blocks. Look for linear dent patterns on metal surfaces and localized shingle granule loss on asphalt roofs. Photograph with scale and GPS coordinates. Record the time and conditions when each image was taken.
Prioritize non-intrusive exterior inspections first. Check HVAC units, solar panels, and vehicles parked outdoors. For asphalt-shingle roofs, focus on windward exposures and protrusions such as hips and ridges where impact marks concentrate. When you find potential hail impact, document material samples and visible substrate exposure for claims support. Keep logs short and factual: location, time, observed damage, and measurement or comparative object where possible.
