Midland, TX experienced a late-afternoon severe storm on September 21, 2026, with dual-polarization radar detecting hail up to 1.58 inches centered over the metro area. The event concluded after a single NWS warning and produced a localized hail signature on NEXRAD.
The National Weather Service issued one severe thunderstorm warning for Midland, TX at 5:22 PM CDT on September 21, 2026. Dual-polarization NEXRAD identified a concentrated hail core within the NWS warning area. Radar-derived hail detection registered a peak hail size of 1.58 inches and produced a compact hail track through the midtown and western portions of the Midland metro.
The storm was short-lived. It developed in the late afternoon and weakened before dusk. No additional NWS alerts were issued for the same cell after the 5:22 PM CDT warning. Available ground data did not include spotter-verified injury reports.
Hail in the roughly 1.5-inch range commonly causes cosmetic and functional damage to vulnerable materials. Vehicle panels and exposed rooftop metal can show dents. Asphalt shingle granule loss and bruising to roofing underlayment are possible where hail was most concentrated. Skylights and single-pane glass have higher risk of cracking when struck in the concentrated core.
There were no spotter-verified damage reports included with the radar data for this event. Inspections in the mapped hail track should prioritize visible denting, granule displacement, and fractured glazing. Record photographic evidence with a measuring reference and note exact locations and times for claims and repairs.
Inspect roofs systematically along the radar-mapped hail swath. Start with aerial or ladder access to identify missing granules, split shingles, and raised tabs. Focus on metal flashings, ridge caps, and exposed HVAC housings for impact damage. Photograph every defect next to a ruler or coin and log GPS coordinates or a street address for each observation.
For vehicle and exterior assessments, document dent size, paint chips, and cracked glass. Provide clients a concise scope that separates cosmetic panel dents from structural concerns. Prioritize emergency repairs for compromised glazing or damaged mechanical equipment that could allow water intrusion. Consult the paid Strike Map to review the radar-confirmed hail swath and refine inspection routes and repair estimates.
