Pampa, TX — September 29, 2026. A late-afternoon into early-evening thunderstorm moved across Pampa and produced hail up to 1.48 inches, with intermittent radar signatures and repeated NWS warning activity.
The storm produced 23 NWS alerts between 5:10 PM CDT and 10:07 PM CDT on September 29. Dual-polarization radar detected hail signatures during an early evening cell at 5:10 PM (0.75 inch) and again in the mid-evening period at 7:24 PM (1.00 inch) and 7:30 PM (0.65 inch). The remainder of the advisory sequence consisted of NWS warning-only alerts, many reporting no hail echoes and several listing 0.75-inch estimates. Activity declined after 10:07 PM CDT and the event is concluded.
Radar-detected returns were concentrated on a narrow path through the metro area. NWS warning-only alerts were issued repeatedly as the storm complex tracked across the region. Local timing placed the most persistent radar signatures in the early evening and mid-evening hours.
Radar-detected hail during the event ranged in size that commonly causes cosmetic and functional damage to exterior building materials and vehicles. Hail in the 0.65–1.00-inch range can remove shingle granules, bruise asphalt shingles, dent metal gutters and siding, and produce visible dents on vehicle sheet metal. Repeated hail impacts over the same surface increase the chance of shingle integrity loss and accelerated wear.
Larger hail reported in the event increases the probability of more pronounced denting and glass damage where impacts are concentrated. For reference, a US quarter equals 1.00 inch and a golf ball equals 1.75 inches on the spotter scale. Localized concentrations of hail and multiple passes by hail-bearing cores are the primary drivers of the observed damage patterns in affected neighborhoods.
Inspect roofs and vehicles in Pampa starting with photographic documentation of the site. Prioritize roofs showing granule loss, split or curled shingles, and exposed underlayment. Check gutters, metal flashing, skylights, and HVAC condenser fins for dents and punctures. For vehicles, document dent patterns and check glass for chipped or cracked windshields.
Follow safe-access procedures during roof inspections. Use drop cloths and temporary coverings where immediate exposure to weather could worsen damage. Record exact locations and times for each inspection entry tied to the local NWS alert window. Provide clients with date-stamped photos and a concise list of visible defects for claims and repair estimates.
