A multi-hour hail-producing storm tracked through Leupp, Arizona beginning late Oct 21 and continuing into Oct 22, 2026, producing teacup-sized stones and a prolonged sequence of radar detections.
The event began late on Oct 21 and persisted through most of Oct 22. NWS systems issued 59 alerts between 9:54 PM MST on Oct 21 and 7:01 PM MST on Oct 22. Alerts alternated between NWS warning-area updates and dual-polarization radar hail detections. Radar-derived hail signatures were recurrent through mid- and late morning and resumed into the afternoon on Oct 22.
At 9:20 AM MST Oct 22 a spotter told the NWS Flagstaff Facebook page they observed 1.5-inch, ping-pong-ball-sized hail in the Leupp area. At 9:36 AM MST another spotter submitted an observation to NWS Flagstaff describing teacup-sized stones. Those spotter-verified observations align with the cluster of radar-detected hail signatures centered over Leupp during the mid-morning window. Later radar alerts recorded larger echo values across adjacent cells in the afternoon, producing a series of discrete hail-detection reports but no additional public spotter submissions for Leupp.
Field reports to NWS Flagstaff documented measurable hail impacts on the Leupp community but did not include tied damage reports for homes, businesses, or public infrastructure in the submissions reviewed. The two spotter-verified entries referenced above provide the primary ground-truth for surface conditions in the Leupp vicinity during mid-morning Oct 22.
Radar coverage shows a concentrated hail detection swath crossing the Leupp area and nearby reservation lands during the mid-morning period. The sequence of radar alerts and spotter inputs indicates localized surface exposure where larger hail sizes were observed by trained spotters, but submitted local storm reports did not list structural failures, widespread tree damage, or vehicle totals for Leupp in those entries.
Contractors conducting initial assessments in the community should expect isolated instances of cosmetic and impact damage consistent with the reported sizes. Survey teams should confirm roof membrane integrity, examine vehicle glass and body panels, and inspect exterior HVAC and solar equipment where installations face the event’s direction of approach. Document findings with geo-tagged photos and time-stamped notes tied to specific addresses or parcel points.
Access and logistics. Leupp sits within remote and reservation lands where access routes can be limited. Plan for field teams to operate on unpaved roads and to stage equipment away from the most heavily travelled corridors. Coordinate with local contacts for gate, permission, and safe-parking locations before mobilizing crews.
Priorities for inspection. Start with rooftop and glazing surveys for properties reporting visual impact or located under the radar-detected hail swath. For mid-morning events, wind-driven hail can collect near eaves and in courtyards; inspect fascia, skylights, and exposed mechanicals. Record presence of chipped shingles, fractured solar glass, dented metal, and punctures in soft membranes. Where photovoltaic systems exist, inspect array frames and inverters for impact-related damage and file separate documentation for electrical inspection if microfractures are suspected.

Try the Free Demo →Field documentation and client reporting. Use high-resolution, geotagged photography and short video clips for every identified hit. Log the exact address, access notes, and the nearest radar-detected hail alert time where the damage was recorded. Prioritize rapid triage on occupied dwellings and municipal assets. Maintain a concise scope-of-work checklist for repair estimates and include a separate line item for potential hidden damage such as insulation saturation or secondary water intrusion.
For a radar-confirmed view of the storm’s hail footprint, consult the paid Strike Map to review the radar-derived hail swath and refine inspection targeting.
