Rolla, Kansas, recorded a concluded nocturnal storm on November 2, 2026, producing 1.00-inch hail concentrated along a narrow radar-derived track.
The event began just after midnight local time and concluded within hours. The National Weather Service issued two warning polygons for the Rolla metro area at 12:06 AM CST and 12:07 AM CST on November 2, 2026. Both NWS alerts were issued as NWS warning only products and did not specify hail sizes in the warning text. Dual-polarization radar processing identified a hail signature along a confined swath through the Rolla municipal area. Radar-derived hail detection peaked at 1.00 inch in the mapped track. The storm is no longer active.
Radar mapping shows the hail path crossed residential streets, light commercial parcels, and open land near Rolla. At the observed magnitude, primary surface effects are most likely to be cosmetic. Expect small dents on exposed vehicle panels and surface bruising to asphalt shingles where direct exposure occurred. Low-elevation attachments such as vinyl siding and air-conditioning units can show minor impact scuffs. Shattered-glass incidents are unlikely at this scale but can occur where hail was wind-driven into vulnerable glazing.
Inspectors should prioritize photographic documentation of exterior vehicle panels and roof surfaces before any temporary repairs. Note locations and exposure orientation relative to the radar-mapped path when logging observations.
First inspection priorities are roofing and vehicles in the radar-mapped path. On roofs, check for shingle granule loss, bruise marks, and localized impact spots rather than widespread shingle breakage. Use close-up, geotagged photos and a consistent measurement protocol for dents to support scope and estimating. For vehicles, document panel dents, paint scuffs, and interior water intrusion if present. Temporary tarping should be measured and photographed with time stamps.
For claims workflow, separate cosmetic repair estimates from any structural repair needs. Communicate expected timelines for minor roof repairs and vehicle paint correction. Be prepared to advise property owners that many repairs at this scale are cosmetic and may not meet thresholds for full replacement. Maintain records tied to addresses within the radar-mapped track for faster reconciliation with insurers.
